photos by Thatcher PhotographyMission:The ongoing mission of the CCHS boys basketball program is: ● To teach life skills that will enable student athletes to meet present and future challenges with success and satisfaction ● To be a source of pride for the school and community because of our approach and behavior ● To have a winning tradition Foundation:The CCHS boys basketball program is built on the following core values (in no particular order): ● Growth ● Teamwork ● Discipline ● Commitment ● Sportsmanship Alignment:At the high school level there are 3 teams ( Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshman) that are aligned by their strategically woven and progressive teachings of the core values( and others), basketball skills, and basketball systems. Each coach shares a similar philosophy and is mindful of what is needed to be taught and experienced to move on to the next level and to be successful on and off the court, now, and in the future. Freshman Basketball – (Includes but not limited to) ● A step by step introduction of the core values ● A concentration on the fundamental skills of basketball ● An introduction to basic team systems of basketball ● A structure to learn how to play high school athletics while meeting academic demands * All members of the freshman Team should expect 5 days of basketball per week (2 games). Weekend and vacation practices are optional. There will be 1 or 2 Saturday fundraising commitments. See practice schedule (link). See game schedule (link). Junior Varsity Basketball- (Includes but not limited to) ● A support structure to meet the standards of the core values ● Reinforcement and daily practice of the fundamental skills of basketball ● Teaching of some of the team systems used as a varsity player ● An emphasis on time management and meeting academic demands * All members of the JV Team should expect 6 days of basketball per week (usually 2 games). There will be 1 mandatory weekend practice per week (usually Sunday afternoon) and mandatory practices and games over December vacation with certain days off. In addition, there will be 2 Sunday games, 1 game the Monday of February vacation, and other fundraising commitments. See practice schedule (link). See game schedule (link). See team policies (link). Varsity Basketball- (Includes but not limited to) ● Reinforcement and maximum accountability of the core values ● Teaching of higher level skills and specialty skills as needed ● Majority of time focused on team systems needed to be successful ● Expectation to be an active learner in the classroom and contributor in the community * All members of the Varsity Team should expect 6 days of basketball per week (usually 2 games). There will be 1 mandatory weekend practice per week usually on Sunday afternoon. The varsity team will have practices and games over the December and February vacations with certain days off around the holidays. There will be 2 Sunday games, fundraising commitments, and multiple outreach events for the youth programs for each member. See practice schedule (link). See Game Schedule (link ).See team policies (link) Tryouts The first Monday after Thanksgiving is the beginning of the tryouts for the 3 teams. All basketball student athletes will be given the opportunity to tryout for all 3 levels. However, only freshman can play freshman basketball and seniors can not play JV or freshman basketball. All student athletes will be seen by all coaches. Tryouts usually last a couple of days. We attempt to find a place in the program for all qualified candidates. |
